Assistant Governor Mark Clark joined us to discuss his goals for membership and fighting food insecurity, sharing his excitement to get involved in our projects. We also welcomed Holy Cross High School's Tom Fertal, who gave a fascinating talk on how Catholic education is changing, including the challenges of declining enrollment and rising tuition. The evening ended with a celebration for Dick Matthew's birthday!
Last Tuesday evening, August 5, under the starlit sky, the Camden Wyoming Club had the pleasure of joining a spirited baseball game featuring the Shorebirds, with a noble cause at its heart. The proceeds were dedicated to supporting the global fight against polio, drawing an impressive gathering of 135 Rotarians from District 7630. It was a delightful occasion that brought our Rotary family together in unity and celebration, amidst a feast of food and an abundance of joy.
As the game reached its seventh inning stretch—a moment famously infused with anticipation—the atmosphere brimmed with camaraderie. It was then that past district governor Bill Ferguson took a moment to honor Max Hutsel with a Rotary Paul Harris pin, acknowledging his generous financial contributions to polio eradication, a cause close to all our hearts.
Our club was well-represented with nine members in attendance, joining numerous other clubs and esteemed district governors, both past and present. The evening was not just a testament to our commitment to a philanthropic cause, but also a celebration of community and fellowship within the Rotary. #rotarydistrict7630
On the splendid Saturday of August 1st, the Camden-Wyoming Rotary Club was a vibrant participant at the Town of Wyoming Peach Festival. Our members thoroughly enjoyed the interactions with festival-goers, enriching the day with insights and anecdotes about our club. It was indeed a memorable day, brimming with joy and the spirit of community.
On Wednesday, July 30th, the Camden-Wyoming Rotary Club was delighted to welcome Tom Malkiewicz as its esteemed guest speaker. Addressing the future of Rotary membership, Mr. Malkiewicz presented an inspiring vision. He emphasized the importance of nurturing and mentoring students from institutions like Del State, guiding them towards their entrepreneurial aspirations. By investing in these young minds, he believes that as they achieve success, they will fondly remember the Rotarians who supported their journey. This sense of gratitude, he proposed, will encourage them to join the Rotary themselves, thus perpetuating the cycle of mentorship and community service.
Continuing a Tradition: Camden-Wyoming Rotary Donates School Supplies to Caring Hearts Helping Hands
Continuing its annual tradition of community support, the Camden-Wyoming Rotary Club once again delivered a generous assortment of school supplies to Caring Hearts Helping Hands today. This yearly initiative reflects the club’s ongoing commitment to enhancing educational opportunities and providing essential resources to those in need within the community. Special thanks to our Club President Mrs. Anne Mathisen and Immediate Past President Dr. Ron Kahn for personally delivering the supplies.
The Camden Wyoming Rotary Satellite Club at Noble's Pond was honored to host Chad Robinson, Vice President of External Affairs at the Food Bank of Delaware, for an eye-opening presentation today at The Point community clubhouse.
Chad provided a sobering overview of food insecurity challenges across our state. He shared that a staggering one in eight Delawareans, including one in five children, currently struggle with hunger. Last year alone, the Food Bank of Delaware distributed 17.2 million pounds of food, made possible by the dedication of 18,000 volunteer hours!
We learned about the complex factors contributing to this issue, such as escalating living costs, high childcare expenses, and medical bills. Chad detailed the impactful initiatives the Food Bank employs to combat hunger, including their vital Backpack Program for children, the Senior Meal Program, and financial coaching services designed to help individuals and families achieve stability.
He also highlighted ongoing challenges, particularly significant funding cuts like the $1.1 million loss from reductions in the TEFAP program. The Food Bank's collaboration with Feeding America and local organizations is key to maximizing their reach and support within our communities.
A huge thank you to Chad for sharing this vital information. We encourage everyone to learn more and consider supporting their efforts at www.fbd.org.
