For nearly two decades, Colleen has been a beacon of hope—organizing MS fundraisers, mentoring students in the Capital School District, enriching lives as Lifestyle Director at Noble's Pond, and even helping us secure the very first Rotary Peace Pole in District 7630! 🕊️

Her compassion, leadership, and selfless spirit uplift everyone she touches. We are proud to see her recognized for the countless ways she brings people together and makes our community stronger.

A New Rotary Year Begins!

On a momentous occasion marking the onset of this Rotary year, the Camden-Wyoming Rotary Club convened its inaugural meeting under the luminous leadership of our new president, Anne Mathisen.

With an inspiring air of unity and purpose, Anne unveiled this year’s captivating theme: "Unite for Good." Her visionary words pledged to steer our club towards becoming a beacon of peace and leadership.

Demonstrating a profound commitment to our cherished institution, Anne promised to collaborate tirelessly with all club members, breathing new life and ambition into our 80-year-old club. Her passion was palpable, igniting a fire within her to elevate the Rotary’s mission and transform our club into an undeniable force of attraction and goodwill.

Avenues of Service Awards 2022 - 2023

The Camden-Wyoming Rotary Club, with the assistance of Immediate Past District

Governor Clif Berg, recognized Rotarians who went above and beyond in service to the

club, their community, and the world. Nominations are open to all Rotarians who have

demonstrated outstanding service in one or more of the following areas:

● Club service

● Vocational service

● Community service

● International service

● Youth service

Here are some specific examples of the outstanding service that our Rotarians have provided in

the past year:

● Dave Walczak, MBA, the Treasurer, has worked tirelessly to manage the club's finances

and ensure we are financially sound. He has also been a critical player in the club's Flag

Program, which has raised over $14,000 for local charities.

● LTC Steve Welde, the Secretary, has kept our membership records up-to-date and

organized our correspondence. He has also led the club's youth service projects,

including providing dictionaries to third-graders and identifying students to attend the

RYLA program.

● Dr. Clif Hutton, the Scholarship Chair, has overseen the club's scholarship program,

which has awarded over $10,000 to deserving students. He has also been a mentor to

many young people in the community.

● Dr. Ronald Kahn, the Membership Development Chair, has developed a new Discover

Rotary presentation and recruited four new members. He has also been a key player in

the club's partnership with the Rotary Club of Baranquilla Norte in Colombia.

● Marylyn Schaeffler , the Satellite Club Founder, was instrumental in forming the club's

new satellite club at Nobles Pond. She has also led the club's service projects, including

providing gifts to families at Christmastime.

● Elestine, the Christmas Giving Chair, has coordinated the club's annual Christmas-giving

project, providing gifts to needy families. She has also been a volunteer at the local soup

kitchen.

● Leo Schaeffler, CPA, the Flag Program Manager, has kept the club's flag inventory up-

to-date and managed the installation of flags at Nobles Pond. He has also been a

volunteer at the local Meals on Wheels program.

● Jose Echeverri, MBA, the International Service Chair, has partnered with the Rotary

Club of Baranquilla Norte in Colombia to support their "Save a Little Heart" project. He

has also been a mentor to young people in Colombia.

● Debbie Taylor, the Program Coordinator, has managed the club's weekly calendar of

meetings and events. She was instrumental in the membership drive and support of the

Satellite Club at Noble’s Pond. Debbie has also been a volunteer at the local food bank.

These are just a few examples of how our Rotarians have made a difference in our community.

CW Rotary Club Helps Make the Wyoming Peach Festival a Success

The Camden-Wyoming Rotary Club had a great time at the Wyoming Peach Festival this year. Club members volunteered their time to help with a variety of activities, including:

• Passing out flyers and talking to the community about Rotary and its work

• Giving out free water to festivalgoers

• Helping to set up the festival grounds.

• Holding a fundraiser for the club's scholarship fund

"We had a great time at the festival," said Rotary Club President Sue Simon. "It was a great opportunity to connect with the community and raise awareness about Rotary."

The Wyoming Peach Festival is a yearly event celebrating the local peach crop. The festival features a variety of activities, including a peach pie-baking contest.  Craft vendors from the area and several surrounding states exhibited their products.

The Rotary Club is a service organization that works to improve communities worldwide. The club's motto is "Service Above Self," and its members volunteer their time and talents to help others.

The Camden-Wyoming Rotary Club is proud to have participated in the Wyoming Peach Festival. The club's members look forward to returning to the festival next year and continuing to make a difference in the community.

The Camden-Wyoming Rotary Club would like to thank the Town of Wyoming for organizing such a great event. The festival was a lot of fun, and the club is grateful for the opportunity to participate.

Intermittent Fasting

Rotarians John Kirby and President-Elect Ronald Kahn presented a talk on the risks and benefits of intermittent fasting at our Wednesday meeting.

Intermittent fasting is a dietary pattern that cycles between periods of eating and fasting. There are many ways to do intermittent fasting, but the most common methods involve fasting for 16 hours and eating during an 8-hour window.

There is some evidence that intermittent fasting can help with weight loss, improve blood sugar control, and reduce the risk of chronic diseases. However, some risks are associated with intermittent fasting, such as fatigue, hunger, and electrolyte imbalances.

John and Ron shared their experiences with intermittent fasting and answered questions. Several of the audience members expressed interest in learning more about intermittent fasting, and the speakers put them on an email mailing list to provide more information and possibly start a Zoom support group. 

WATER IS LIFE KENYA

The Camden-Wyoming Rotary Club is a proud Water is Life, Keyna contributor.

Our guest speakers on July 12th were Aaron Leema, Outreach & Operations Manager of “Water is Life, Kenya,” and Jerry A. Bilton, President-Elect of the Newark Rotary Club. Jerry and his club are leading the effort in Rotary 7630 to support purchasing and installing pumps and generators for much-needed water wells in rural Kenya.

Thanks to the work on the water project, women and girls no longer have to walk 12 hours a day to collect clean water. This huge time savings allows them to realize their potential within their communities. What is Life Kenya works with groups of 15 to 20 individuals who share the responsibility of livestock management. Overall, WILK’s training and microloan program has helped the groups build route resilience energy with 40% net profit on cattle sold. Moreover, 318 women experience their first opportunity to own cattle!

Water is Life Kenya is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit serving & empowering Maasai communities through WASH projects & resource management training.
