Sandy Gloss, RYT, RDN a registered yoga teacher and dietitian/nutritionist talked to the Camden Wyoming Rotary Club about the benefits of yoga breathing, meditation techniques, yoga for sleep, and diet. Sandy talked about her road to realizing the importance of food as medicine and the benefits of yoga.

Our speaker this week was Mary Beth Parker, Executive Director of the Hope Medical Clinic. Our Club has had a long relationship with the Hope Clinic and its founders. Past Club President Venerando Maximo was one of the clinic's founders who regularly traveled to the Philippines on charitable medical missions.
The Hope Clinic is a non-profit, free clinic in Dover, Delaware that provides primary medical care to uninsured and low-income individuals. The clinic was founded in 2003 by a group of Filipino physicians committed to providing access to quality healthcare to underserved people.
The Hope Clinic offers a variety of services, including:
• Primary care
• Women's health
• Pediatric care
• Dental care
• Mental health services
• Social services
The clinic is open to all residents of Delaware, regardless of their immigration status. Patients are seen on a first-come, first-served basis and do not need to make an appointment. The Hope Clinic is funded by donations and grants.
The Hope Clinic is a vital resource for Dover's uninsured and low-income community. The clinic provides access to quality healthcare that would otherwise be out of reach for many people. The Hope Clinic is a testament to the power of community and the importance of giving back.

What services does JFS Delaware offer?
Col. Mitch Berger, Senior Aerospace Science Instructor of the Caesar Rodney High School AF JROTC along with cadets Bethany Ford and Maddox Baker spoke to the Camden Wyoming Rotary about the JROTC program at CR. Colonel Berger talked about how he came to his current position thanks to the help of Camden-Wyoming Rotary’s own LTC Steve Welde, the previous Senior Aerospace Science Instructor at CR. He also related his plans to take on an even bigger assignment with AF JROTC.
Cadets Ford and Baker discussed their jobs as cadets. They spoke of their aspirations for college and beyond. The JROTC program does thousands of community service hours each year and is in the business of setting cadets up for success in high school and whatever they choose to do after.

Colleen Culver, wife of our treasurer, Dave Walczak talked about her long career as a writer or as she says, a “storyteller”. At our Wednesday Rotary meeting, Colleen told her story about her lifelong passion for writing.
She has written 200 books of different genres under a variety of pen names. Colleen grew up in the Camden - Wyoming area and relies on many of her experiences from her early childhood when writing her books.
Colleen’s first publication was at age 16 in the Delaware Digest and sold her first novel when she was 23 Colleen’s mother was a writer, and when her mother was given a diagnosis of terminal cancer, Colleen teamed up with her to author several books.
To date, Colleen has sold over 10 million copies of her books. The books have been translated into multiple languages and read around the world. She continues her disciplined schedule of writing and is currently under contract to write Amish romances.
Third grade students in the Caesar Rodney School District were recently given the gift of a dictionary by the Camden Wyoming Rotary Club. The Club has participated in The Dictionary Project for about 25 years. In that time, they have provided thousands of dictionaries to students. The third graders were excited to receive their new dictionaries. Many of the students quickly started thumbing through the books to learn about sign language, see the longest word in the English language, or find a favorite word. It is rewarding to see the sparkle of gratitude in the students’ eyes when they get their very own book that they can write their name in.
At their Wednesday meeting, members of the Camden - Wyoming Rotary Club participated in a Zoom presentation by Gustavo Adolfo De la Ossa Velez and members of Barranquilla Norte, Atl., Colombia Rotary Club (translated by our Club President Dr. Yasmith Johnson) about their "ATENCIÓN A NIÑOS CON PROBLEMAS CARDIOVASCULARES" project.
The Save a Heart Project is made up of 4 complementary stages. The first step of the project is to identify children who, due to certain warning signs, could present risks of cardiovascular disease. For this step, two days are carried out, one initially of pediatrics as a filter for possible cases of cardiovascular diseases, the other day is already carried out to achieve a diagnosis and determine behaviors to follow. Once the child's medical priority has been identified, the preparation stage begins, which consists of dental, nutritional, psychological, and general medical treatment to ensure that children who require treatments can be treated. According to the priority, children who require surgery are sent to the Cardioinfantil in Bogotá. The project covers the expenses of travel, stay, food and travel expenses; they also enter a process of medical, psychological, nutritional, and training support.
The CW Rotary Club supports this worthy cause and hopes others will too.
Club members also packed three large baskets of non-perishable food collected by members to donate to Helping Hands, Caring Hearts. A fun and productive evening!
